Dry Goods Supervisor

Winnipeg - Lagimodiere Blvd., MB

 The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Materials Manager, the Dry Goods Supervisor will guide their team through inventory management activities conducting regular cycle counts, physical inventories, and reconciliations.  You are responsible for measuring accuracy, driving efficiency, and maintaining accurate on hand inventory within SAP to support the daily operations throughout the Lagimodiere facility.  You thrive in an environment that is fast paced and have a keen sense for continuous improvement. This position requires a high level of communication and collaboration among departments with a servant leader mentality.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Lead a team of 8 hourly employees to ensure that all receiving activities are staffed and executed accurately and on time.
  • Manage an hourly workforce in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with company policies, and procedures to deliver operational and work environment objectives including communications, safety, training, performance management, work assignment, attendance management, competency assessment, coaching, and discipline.
  • Review employee hours worked and manage employee time off and absences.
  • Manage optimal inventory levels to satisfy plant requirements.
  • Execute the physical inventory count process within the facility.
  • Manage the storage, stock rotation, and internal distribution of packaging materials and ingredients.
  • Manage the inbound packaging materials to meet production requirements including inventory accuracy, minimizing write-offs and new product introductions.
  • Proactively resolve warehouse inventory discrepancies.
  • Identify old code dates for packaging and ingredients and work with the appropriate team members to eliminate loss.
  • Develop, improve, and execute inventory counts to ensure that dry goods inventory is accurately reflected within SAP.
  • Assist Material Supply Coordinators in managing on hold and defective material in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensure appropriate delegation of dry good receiving and inventory count tasks across bacon complex and plant services department to achieve best practices with minimal overtime.
  • Ensure all warehouse employees are properly trained in health & safety and food safety policies and procedures and the duties and responsibilities of their current role.
  • Maintain accurate information of SOP in the warehouse.
  • Look for and recommend process improvements related to inventory.
  • Follow-up and resolve issues as they relate to inventory.
  • Space Optimization – aid in analyzing the best use of available storage.
  • Consistent with our leadership values, act as a champion for our culture by leading the warehouse team in the development and execution of a positive and productive environment that permeates through all levels and is focused on the needs of our people.
  • Working with the Materials Supply team, assign and monitor work within the department following receiving schedules.
  • Assure coordinated workflow and elimination of ordinary difficulties.
  • Maintain a safe working environment for all staff ensuring all policies and processes are followed properly for the movement of goods and staff within the warehouse and with the receiving of trailers.
  • Audit processes, train and re-train staff to ensure the safe movement of materials throughout the warehouse.
  • Supervise the shunt activities within the yard relating to the receiving of materials.
  • Develop and implement improvements to current processes to drive down cost, improve quality.
  • Maintain administrative processes regarding schedules, inspections, inventories, and management reports.
  • Adhere to and assist in the enforcement of safe work practices following all safety regulations and guidelines. Report accidents to OHS Manager and assist with accident investigations.
  • Adhere to and assist in the enforcement of Good Manufacturing Practices following all sanitation and process procedures and guidelines.
  • Other project work as assigned by management

What You’ll Bring:

  • 5+ years of industry experience in Inventory Management, Materials Management, Supply chain or related field.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Materials Management preferred. 
  • Strong analytical capability.
  • SAP experience with inventory counts, transactions and reconciliations 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.
  • A strong communicator, both written and oral, who is confident, decisive, able to deal with conflict and yet achieve win-win results,
