The Opportunity:
Formulator is an important part of the Materials team in that they are responsible for insuring the plant has enough raw materials to run production and at the same time managing those materials, so disposals of materials is minimal. The Formulator makes sure that we are minimizing costs by using the least cost raw materials to make pre-blends and finished product.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:
- Manages raw material inventories
- Produces daily formulations from Format computer program
- Runs weekly production requirements for raw materials based on production plans
- Communicates closely with Procurement to insure plant requirements are met either by increasing or decreasing raw material orders
- Produce STO orders from storage warehouse for raw materials
- Manages tempering raw materials with 3rd party storage
- Communicates substitutions to production when the called for raw material is not available and or re-formulates
- Is part of the team that investigates non-compliance production issues
- Produces Process Orders for production from SAP
- Sets up preblending raw material requirements for the next day production
- Entering in raw material and WIP inventory counts into SAP
- Role works during the day but may require occasional work on an off shift and on weekends based on business requirements
- Cross-training within scheduling and/or materials department to cover for vacations is required
- Maximizing frozen raw material usages in formulations and preblends when cost effective
- Plant fill rate and conformance targets with regards to having enough materials to satisfy production demands and schedule
- Running least cost formulations to targeted cost savings
- Measurable reduction in tankage of raw materials
- Other Continuous Improvement projects
What You’ll Bring:
- Some post-secondary education is required preferably in business or food science
- Strong communication skills
- Meat science background would be an asset
- Excellent computer skills – SAP, Format, Excel and Word
- Ability to make quick decisions in a fast paced production environment
- A strong sense of urgency and the drive to solve complex problems and drive efficiency
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Strong mathematical knowledge and skills
