The Opportunity

The Sr Manager, Production Planning is responsible leading the production planning team who are responsible for planning and scheduling to ensure timely production of customer orders at our state of the art, world class food manufacturing facility in Hamilton, ON. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the creation and maintenance of production schedules which balance finished goods inventories to target levels, as well as issue production work orders to ensure inventory is available for requested customer delivery dates. This leader also has responsibility for interfacing between Production and Customer Supply Chain to ensure sales order requirements are fulfilled. The position requires a hands-on Production Planning Snr Manager who will excel under pressure, is deadline driven while ensuring organization and accuracy.

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:

  • Lead, coach and develop a Production Planning team of 4 direct reports
  • Process Owner of the Production Planning process, scope includes:
    • Scheduling of the 3 main production areas – Wieners, Deli/Bolo Raw, Deli/Bolo RTE
    • Raw Meat planning and replenishment
    • Co-Man WIP ordering and replenishment
    • Least Coast Formulation solves for all of production
  • Working with the scheduling team to drive true ownership of the Weekly Production Plan with Supply Chain.  Managing any adjustments that are needed in the plan and providing the right visibility to the Heritage production teams.
  • Engagement with Operations daily on any production challenges that impact the ability to meet the weekly production plan
  • Provide leadership support and process engagement to other cross functional Heritage teams:
    • Operations for daily execution and ongoing process improvement opportunities
    • Purchasing for Non-Meat inventory planning – packaging, ingredients
    • Shipping for planning out any changes in typical shipping patterns
    • FSQA for managing all impacts of the quality promise as it relates to planning
    • Site Senior Leadership Team engagement as required on matters requiring escalation or senior visibility
    • Engage with other key stakeholders outside of Heritage:
    • Supply Chain to manage the weekly Manufacturing Conformance reconciliation process, and involvement in process improvement opportunities to maximize customer fill rates 
    • Marketing for planning new launches and associated impacts to scheduling
    • Information Solutions for any system enhancements or trouble shooting
    • PMO for involvement in projects that impact the Heritage Production Planning process
    • MLF Sister Production facilities & Co-Man Suppliers for inbound Raw and WIP meat executional challenges and involvement in process improvement plans
    • Specialty Sales for the production and sales plan for all secondary market items
  • Assume task ownership of planning roles to manage vacation coverage
  • To be required approx. 30% of year to cover 16 weeks of team vacation
