The Opportunity

Maple Leaf Foods is seeking a Food Engineering Intern to help create a tailored training program designed to introduce concepts in Food Science, Meat Science, and Manufacturing Technology to prepare new and existing employees with fundamental technical knowledge relevant to Maple Leaf Foods.

This is a 2-month role located at the Maple Leaf Foods headquarter in Mississauga Ontario.  In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Creating a training program to introduce basic concepts in food science, meat science, packaging technology, and process technology with relevance to the company’s products & processes  
  • Compiling literature (books, studies, reports etc…) to support more advance training
  • Conduct factory audits to collect data and create production process maps to support training program
  • Other duties as required

What you will bring:

  • Food Science (Bachelor of Science or equivalent) degree at a recognized post-secondary institution (strong applicants currently enrolled in a program will also be considered)
  • 1 or more years of work experience (preferably in food manufacturing)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office suite of software (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and excellent communications (oral & written)
  • Strong documentation skills
  • Organized and capable of working independently
  • Technical curiosity and a questioning attitude
