Reporting Manager

The Opportunity

Your career will know no bounds when you join our professional, motivated, and fun-loving finance team in a Canadian based public company.  Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Finance Manager will be responsible for ensuring the correct application of IFRS in the Company's external audited financial statements.  This includes responsibility for the implementation of new accounting standards, providing accounting treatment recommendations for new and complex transactions, and advising on unusual matters.  Working with business leaders and partners, you will explain and implement your recommendations in a practical manner that all relevant parties, from the boardroom to the plant floor, can easily understand.  This will drive your understanding of the business, give you exposure to many people and aspects of the business and fuel your desire to continually improve both the business and your own development. 

A snapshot of the exciting things you will lead and execute:

  • Assess and recommend appropriate accounting treatment for complex and unusual transactions, including but not limited to post retirement benefits, financial instruments, business combinations, biological assets and share-based compensation.
  • Implement accounting standard changes, where and as applicable.
  • Be a team player and assist in preparation and review of the annual and quarterly financial statements and MD&A
  • Primary oversight of annual impairment testing.
  • Manage audit and preparation of audited financial statements for the company’s pension plan, including responsibility for pension accounting.
  • Be responsible for the update, review and implementation of Company-wide accounting policies; which includes providing training to all employees impacted.
  • Ad hoc projects as required.

Your skills:

  • CPA, CA designation with 4-5 years of working experience in Finance.
  • Experience with public company reporting.
  • A strong knowledge of IFRS.
  • Pension accounting and financial instruments experience is an asset.
  • Ability to influence without authority.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
