The Opportunity

The role of the FSQA Manager is to provide site leadership by ensuring that all poultry products leaving the facility meet the highest standards of food safety and quality. Further, the FSQA Manager acts as an advocate of the retail/food service customer and consumer by ensuring that their expectations are consistently met and reflect the plant’s capability through approved product specifications and quality standards.   He/She/They will ensure that quality systems are built into the manufacturing of products and that auditing systems are in place to audit compliance and to provide feedback or take corrective actions as required. The FSQA Manager will be the point of contact for the local CFIA staff to ensure that the HACCP program conform to the standards specified by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.  He/She/They will be responsible for the deployment and management of FSQA team.

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:

  • Provide Quality site leadership in a fast-paced plant and provide input/recommendations to the Operations group on quality and food safety related issues
  • Develop, amend, and maintain HACCP plans, procedures as required and maintain a professional working relationship with the local CFIA staff. Lead with the Plant Manager to implement Food Safety strategy, MLF BRC Requirements
  • Lead, coach, and train employees and direct reports through effective education and communication in a manner consistent with the Leadership Edge Values. Motivate employees to high performance through recognition and constructive feedback
  • Ensure compliance with all quality and food safety requirements through data/ measurement systems
  • Investigate consumer/customer complaints in a thorough and timely manner
  • Measure the effectiveness of the sanitation program and work with the sanitation staff and sanitation chemical supplier to promote continuous improvement and recommend corrective actions as required
  • Site contact for the Pest Control operator. Ensures that the standards of pest control are maintained and provides feedback to the plant when issues arise or when corrective actions are required
  • Point of contact for customer and regulatory communication and documentation
  • Active participant in plant continuous improvement and/or six sigma projects as required
  • Effective site quality leader demonstrated through progressive improvements and consistency in the plant’s ability to meet customer/consumer expectations
  • Effective measurement systems utilizing data analysis and/or Six Sigma metrics to provide feedback and recommend corrective action in a proactive fashion
  • Professional point of contact for regulatory agencies and customer contacts

What you will bring:

  • 4 to 5 years’ experience in a Quality Assurance management/supervisory role, preferably in the food industry
  • Post-Secondary education in related science field; Microbiology/Food Safety preferred
  • Experience in the food processing industry is considered important
  • Working knowledge or exposure to Six Sigma or continuous improvement analysis/techniques
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated success in managing major corporate renewal and culture change
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, success in developing people
  • High degree of integrity as a personal core value
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Ability to set and prioritize goals and objectives and communicate these to peers, subordinates, and senior management
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
