The Opportunity

 The Marketing Manager – Private Label Commercialization & Utilization is responsible for the successful cross-functional leadership, triage and commercialization of private label initiatives in addition to being responsible for internal RWA meat utilization management by liaising with our fresh pork, manufacturing and other internal stakeholders to ensure the success of our sustainable meats platform. This position will work directly with Sales and adjacent Category Marketing Managers to ensure our Private Label sustainable meats portfolio delivers expected volume and profitability.

This position requires someone that has a passion for food and the consumer, the ability to work effectively with cross functional teams and has a high degree of strategic, business and financial acumen and strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail and ability to get things done. Specific to the utilization component of the role, the successful candidate will possess or have experience at the intersection of business management, supply chain planning disciplines and a strong sense of proactivity with crisp communication skills to highlight potential challenges and recommended solutions to overcome.

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do: 

  • Lead management of the overall health of their private label RWA categories at MLF including making recommendations that optimize mix and profitability in-line with category objectives and growth priorities
  • Lead new product development projects from idea to business case and launch while determining financial feasibility and making recommendations on production, capabilities, timing, etc.
  • Estimate margins, volumes and make financial commitments for go-to-market plans and business cases
  • Lead in the development of customer quotations with bid submissions and related financial targets
  • Translate sales requests and ideas into verifiable concepts based on consumer value and commercial potential. Manage an efficient process for triaging sales requests.
  • Develop clearly defined timelines and lead multidisciplinary teams that include: Manufacturing, Sales, Finance, R&D, Supply Chain, and Category Management to deliver outlined objectives on time and on budget
  • Liaise with the commercial execution team to maintain a project tracker / critical paths to actively manage ongoing setups for every launch
  • Lead cross functional teams, plan & track, manage and make recommendations to enable a consistent flow of Maple Leaf RWA meat supply to meet our collective objectives across multiple business units; be seen as the “go-to one source of the truth” on managing RWA raw material
  • Develop a strong relationship with fresh pork team, manufacturing and supply chain teams to unlock effective raw material management practices
  • Support the development of customer presentations with category stories, MLF competitive advantages, capabilities, artwork mock-ups and product presentations
  • Manage all Private Label RWA expenditures to remain on budget and hit corresponding financial targets.

What you will bring:

  • Degree in business or related field plus a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience with a track record for delivering winning results
  •  Experience in Private Label commercialization in Canada an asset
  • Project management certification an asset
  • Previous work or non-work-related experience that demonstrate capability to effectively manage multiple projects and lead cross functional teams
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Competency requirements:
      • Commercial Acumen, Budget Planning & P&L Management– Solid understanding of key drivers of the budget process and P&L's with ability to recommend changes required to move the business forward.  Set consumer pricing strategy for RSP& FSP with supporting propositions, programs and evaluations
      • Business Understanding and Insights - Demonstrates the ability to understand, manipulate and draw conclusions from internal & external data sources.  Demonstrates ability to build, track, and course correct business plans to achieve targets.
      • Business Reviews & Plans – Leads the annual business reviews & planning process assessing current business.  Plans include objectives and strategies for each opportunity, spending levels, pricing/costing assumptions, volume/consumption builds, risk analysis, and an integrated marketing calendar.
      • Sales Knowledge & Connectivity - Demonstrates understanding of customer strategies and motivations and applies to marketing planning process & initiative execution.
      • Strategic Leadership - Demonstrates big picture thinking with an ability to clearly articulate a strategic direction, justified with sound fact-based rationale. Sells ideas and recommendations through to management convincingly.
      • Strategic Communications – To develop and execute disruptive and breakthrough marketing campaigns and creative.
