The Opportunity

 IS Specialist in the Quality Management area with a focus on IS solutions and processes related to LabVantage Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) including Environmental Monitoring Program (EMP), SAP Quality Management processes, SAP FSQA mobile app and FSQA analytics. The position will work in collaboration with business stakeholders such as the FSQATS (Food Safety, Quality Assurance and Technical Services) teams as well as Information Solution teams to support FSQATS activities and projects. Opportunity to work in fast paced environment with a strong focus on innovation and new technologies to realize the corporate business strategy.
The IS Specialist will have the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of Maple Leaf Foods business processes related to FSQATS  including Manufacturing and Product Development processes, implement new processes within LabVantage LIMS, SAP S/4HANA and other solutions, deploy SAP to new facilities and work closely with end users. The working environment will be a mix of local office, remote and travel onsite to facilities.


A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do: 

  • Responsible for delivery and execution of projects and initiatives related to applications within MLF laboratories (LIMS), corporate Quality processes and plant production areas (SAP QM and FSQA mobility)
  • Participate in innovative FSQATS projects related to vendor collaboration, analytics and mobility
  • Support of LIMS and SAP business processes by participating in workshops, creating user requirement specifications and functional specifications, performing system configuration, change management, developing and executing test cases, providing training, end user support and resolving tickets
  • Lead and execute LIMS upgrades and/or patches as required, with vendor support
  • Develop and maintain project documentation, configuration documentation, standard operating procedures, and other documentation as required during and post system change implementation
  • Participate in facility / site deployments and on-site visits with attention toward in-depth understanding of business unit requirements, challenges and issues
  • Provide end user training and support onsite at facilities and remotely
  • Provision for after-hours emergency support in the event of a priority one incident

What you will bring:

  • Information technology bachelor’s degree or Science (Chemistry, Microbiology) bachelor’s degree is preferred
  • 3 to 5-year experience with Laboratory processes
  • 2 to 3-year experience with LIMS (preferably LabVantage)
  • Experience in leading workshops, defining business process flow, gathering/documenting business requirements, testing and go-live support
  • Good understanding of configuration dependencies and interrelationships between different LIMS and SAP modules.
  • Must have excellent communication skills with both IS and non-technical resources
  • Strong time management and multitasking abilities
  • Proven ability to work in collaborative team environments as well as independently
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Quick learner and strong desire to learn new business processes and solutions
  • Passionate for new technologies and innovation
  • Manufacturing experience would be an asset
  • Working knowledge in defining LIMS solution roadmap
  • Basic understanding of Business Analytics - SAP BI tools or Microsoft PowerBI
  • 2 to 3-year experience with SAP QM is an asset
  • Some understanding of basic/simple script programing as well as SQL for writing basic queries
