Reporting to the Senior Vice President & General Manager, Poultry, the Vice President, Poultry Ag Ops & Industry Relations overall mandate is to deliver on the business priorities of the front-end of the Poultry Value Chain.
This is a high-impact role and an excellent test for a high-potential candidate with interests in running a business and developing broad General Management skills. The role has two key accountabilities; General Management of the Ag Ops business with P&L accountability, and Industry Relations within a complex supply-managed industry. The scope of the role is very broad and deep requiring close collaboration both cross-functionally within Maple Leaf and externally with producers, Marketing Boards and processor associations. The role is a key member of the cross-functional Poultry Leadership Team and leads a team of 6 direct reports and 295 indirect reports.
A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:
General Management of AgOps business with P&L accountability
Accountable for delivering the total profitability of the Agricultural Operations business as part of the cross-functional Poultry Leadership Team
Lead a team of 6 direct reports including Operations, Sales & Procurement, Veterinarians, Process Specialist and HR.
Deliver continuous improvement in operations with focus on productivity, costs, quality, and safety within a supply managed industry. Operations include MLF breeder farms, three hatcheries in Ontario and Alberta, and contracted 3rd party hatching egg producers and catching and live haul.
Plan and execute >220 million kg of contracted chicken and turkey with producer partners and Marketing Boards to supply processing plants with the required volume and spec
Drive leadership in Sustainable Meats, Animal Care and Food Safety programs across the value-chain
Ensure regulatory compliance as required for all functions.
Represent and advance MLF interests through networking and involvement in Poultry Associations provincially and nationally to:
Promote strong producer, processor and industry supply chain relationships
Lobby for appropriate poultry live supply through political allocation process
Advocate for longer term improvements to supply management system and processes
Advocate and advance MLF strategic initiatives
Participate in live price cost of production processes with Provincial Marketing Board

What you will bring:
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10+ years of professional experience in industry post-degree. Strong critical thinking and business acumen skills, along with proven ability to lead and inspire a team in a complex hands-on operating environment. In addition, the candidate will have a demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate across MLF functions (and levels) to solve complex problems, gain alignment and execute with speed to deliver on priorities. They have a unique combination of humility, courage and interpersonal savvy to lead effectively in industry.
