The Opportunity

 Reporting to the Senior Manager of Human Resources, this individual is responsible for supervising Employee Services Operations and developing plant-wide recruiting/retention strategies for a large, fast-paced, growth- oriented Manufacturing environment. The scope of responsibilities will include overseeing and/or conducting selection of production, trades, technical and front-line management from domestic and foreign sources. This includes the following:

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do: 

  • Leadership of the Employee Services Team (4) and providing employee services objectives and priorities that are aligned with HR, Brandon Plant, and Maple Leaf organizational targets
  • Oversees recruitment for large scale manufacturing plant consisting of 1,900 hourly and 150 salaried employees, this includes:
    • Hourly Workforce Analysis – aligning labour standards, OT, turnover, labour market with internal and external recruitment directives with emphasis on staffing critical roles
    • Salaried Recruitment – working with corporate Talent Acquisition Centre and other third-party recruiters to ensure staffing of operational and function roles
    • Foreign Recruitment – oversight to international recruiting efforts and ensuring compliance to all work permit and other immigration legislation
    • Marketing – shaping Maple Leaf Brandon’s value proposition as an employer to cultivate a high quality workforce (hourly and salaried), and creating partnerships within the community and province to promote our plant
  • Leads the HRIS and Payroll systems for the plant, this includes:
    • Site lead and subject matter expert in HRIS, including being site HR approver for all SAP transactions, and auditing of KRONOS timekeeping processes
    • Oversees and audits hourly and salaried payroll submissions, ensuring proper controls and compliance measures are in place
    • Working with various corporate departments including payroll, compensation and benefits, and HR services team to ensure needs of our employees are met
  • Talent Management
    • Salaried Learning and Development – utilize various MLF classroom and online resources to provide targeted group and individualized programs that build competency, support development action plans, and eliminate talent gaps
    • Salaried Performance Management – site lead for mySuccess performance management platform including biannual talent reviews and PIP/discipline processes when required

What you will bring:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • A CHRP designation and/or demonstrated commitment achieve
  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends and opportunities, translating these into clear and effective actionable goals while creating an environment of continuous improvement
  • Relevant experience will be considered a minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated successful and progressive recruitment and labour relations within a unionized, high-growth environment
  • Strong coaching, performance consulting skills, training, group facilitation, and team building skills
  • Strong leadership abilities with emphasis on organizing, delegating, coaching and development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage, organize and utilize project management methodologies for single and multiple projects
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
