Position Summary
The Assistant Supervisor, Sanitation is responsible for supporting the daily execution, coordination, and oversight of sanitation activities within a designated hatchery and/or breeder barn location. This role provides frontline leadership to the sanitation team and ensures sanitation programs, schedules, and compliance activities are effectively carried out in support of food safety, biosecurity, production readiness, and operational excellence.
The role also provides administrative and operational support for sanitation systems, chemical management, health and safety follow-up, team communications, and shift coverage, while acting as a key support to the Sanitation Supervisor and broader site leadership team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and oversee sanitation scheduling by assigning, updating, and ensuring completion of the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), including during non-production periods.
  • Support consistent sanitation execution across shifts while providing supervisory coverage as needed to maintain operational continuity and standards.
  • Provide daily leadership, direction, and support to sanitation team members, reinforcing expectations for performance, quality, and safe work practices.
  • Lead team communications through pre-shift huddles, bi-weekly meetings, and participation in town halls to align priorities, issues, and corrective actions.
  • Support broader site leadership needs as required, including operational coordination and ad hoc site support (e.g., access/door coverage).
  • Perform and verify sanitation effectiveness through Post-Op inspections, chemical testing, and equipment/system checks to ensure production readiness.
  • Support and monitor sanitation verification programs (e.g., ATP swabbing), including tracking results and ensuring timely corrective actions.
  • Execute and oversee specialized sanitation processes (e.g., weekly vinegar flush) and follow up on any sanitation-related issues or deviations.
  • Maintain accurate sanitation records and reporting (including TPC results), ensuring all activities, inspections, and chemical checks are properly documented and communicated.
  • Support compliance and risk management by conducting investigations, managing health and safety follow-ups, and ensuring adherence to SOPs, WHMIS, and company standards.
  • Manage the ordering and inventory control of hatchery sanitation supplies and chemicals to ensure availability and proper storage.
  • Oversee chemical management practices, including safe handling, use, storage, and compliance with site procedures.
  • Act as a key point of contact for monthly interactions with the Chemical Vendor representative.
  • Support team capability and operational continuity by training and coaching sanitors, monitoring performance, and ensuring staffing flexibility to maintain sanitation standards and production readiness.
  • Read and understand production schedules to align sanitation activities with daily operational requirements.
  • Ensure sanitation tasks support on-time start-up and escalate concerns that may impact operations, equipment readiness, or compliance.
  • Support the management of the Uniform Program by ordering uniforms, returning items, and checking inventory.
  • Support the Sanitation Audits and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Report equipment issues or concerns promptly to the supervisor or reliability team for follow-up.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 1-3 years of supervisory or related experience
  • Post-secondary diploma and/or degree in field such as Operations, Management/Leadership Studies, Business, etc. is an asset
  • Able to work in a fast paced and repetitive task environment
  • Able to work varying & flexible hours until job complete
  • Ability to be CPR and First Aid certified as needed
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
  • Must understand and follow all Animal Welfare/PCP/Biosecurity procedures
  • Proven organizational and time management skills
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Must be able to lift 40 – 50 lbs. repetitively overhead
  • Must be able to work in a wet/humid environment
  • Must be available to work Statutory Holidays
  • Desire and initiative to excel within the organization
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook – SAP Experience an asset
  • Effective communication skills to lead, motivate, coach, mentor and resolve employee conflict
  • Well established organization and prioritization skills to manage multiple tasks
  • Experience with scheduling personnel relating to production needs
  • Self-starter with good analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Continuous learner and willingness to embrace change
  • Other duties as assigned by Management
