Trade Spend Analyst - Contract

 The Opportunity:

As part of Maple Leaf Food’s Finance team, the Trade Analyst is responsible for accurately entering and maintaining accrual rates within the system, ensuring alignment with established financial guidelines. Manages and processes trade deductions by reviewing, validating, and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner. Prepares and delivers monthly reporting with a strong focus on accuracy, completeness, and adherence to MLF policies and C3 internal control requirements, ensuring compliance and supporting audit readiness. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a strong knowledge of Trade Spend programs and accruals, along with the accounting background to understand the financial impact on the business.

Base Salary:   $59,000 – $87,000 CAD base pay annually

The above base salary reflects the target compensation for the position at the time of posting. The base salary offered may vary based on a variety of factors including skills, experience, education, training, job- related knowledge, and other organizational requirements. For part-time roles, salaries are adjusted according to scheduled hours.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Maintain strict adherence to our Trade Investment policies
  • Entering, verifying and maintaining Trade Accruals in the CRM system including adjustments and turnbacks
  • Validate and process customer claims & payments in a timely & accurate manner
  • Communicate with Sales and Accounts Receivable on outstanding trade deductions
  • Review, validate and clear Trade deductions
  • Process settlements to 3rd party Trade Spend Partners for payment
  • Provide monthly account reconciliations for TMA
  • Monitor, escalate and promote awareness with the business on accrual performance and spending trends 
  • Effectively communicate with all levels of staff and management
  • Liaise with our internal and external auditors on controls testing
  • Provide monthly Trade Unapplied Balances reporting
  • Provide monthly Trade Adjustment/Turnback reporting
  • Provide insight and support for quarterly True up of discretionary spend.
  • Maintain Foodservice Sales commitment template on a monthly basis.
  • Provide Foodservice TIARR on a monthly basis
  • Provide support and execute the Foodservice quarterly rate changes.
  • Ad hoc requests on Turnback, Adjustments, Journals and system related issues etc.
  • Provide support on TMA projects

What You’ll Bring:

  • Post-secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related discipline
  • Progress toward or completion of a professional designation (e.g., CPA) is considered an asset
  • Minimum 2–5 years of relevant experience in trade spend, accounts receivable, pricing, or financial analysis
  • Proven experience working with trade deductions, accruals, and customer claims management in a high-volume environment
  • Exposure to month-end close processes, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) and trade promotion or deduction management processes
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Sales, Finance, and customer-facing teams to resolve discrepancies and support business outcomes
  • Strong understanding of trade spend programs, accrual methodologies, and financial impact analysis
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis)
  • High attention to detail with a focus on accuracy, completeness, and data integrity
  • Ability to analyze large data sets, identify trends, and investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Solid understanding of financial controls, policies, and audit documentation requirements, ensuring compliance with MLF policies and C3 controls
  • Knowledge of pricing structures, promotions, and deduction lifecycle management
