FSQA Manager (HACCP)

 The Opportunity:

The FSQA Manager is accountable for the execution of the Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs, HACCP and Recall plans at the facility. They are responsible for driving continuous improvement in a fast paced and demanding environment.  Additionally, the Manager will establish and maintain positive relationships with regulatory bodies.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Responsible for assembling and managing the HACCP team, ensuring that all members are adequately trained and informed about their roles. 
  • Oversee the identification and analysis of potential hazards that could affect food safety, leading the team to determine which hazards need to be controlled. 
  • To ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the HACCP plans, including regular updates and modifications as necessary. 
  • To ensure that the system is validated as per a set schedule, including verification of the validations to ensure it is functioning correctly and effectively controlling hazards. 
  • Manages training programs for staff to ensure everyone has sufficient knowledge of food safety practices. Communicates any changes or updates to the HACCP plan to all relevant personnel. 
  • To ensure that records are accurate and maintained for all HACCP-related activities, including hazard analyses, control measures, and verification processes, is another critical responsibility. 
  • To ensure that the HACCP system complies with relevant food safety regulations and standards and preparing for and managing internal and external audit. 
  • To provide the buy in from the senior management regarding food safety strategies.   
  • To assess food safety issues regarding segregation. Hold, and disposition of product, as well as effectiveness/appropriateness of corrective action. 
  • Makes recommendations on the final disposition of products, based on food safety and quality principles. 
  • To help developing and implementing new food safety protocols based on new studies, new regulations, new customer requirements, etc.  
  • Provides guidance on developing of food safety and quality related training 
  • Facility security of the microbiological and chemical laboratory.  
  • Schedules, participate and support any actions during the monthly HACCP meetings 
  • Schedules and participate in annual Food Defense Audit. 
  • Supports the developing and participate in training for the Food Defense Team. 
  • Reviews Food Defense Audit results, approve corrective actions and create annual Food Defense Plan. 
  • Leads completion of mock traceability exercise for product with claims. 
  • Reviews a mock recall with the recall team as per MLF QA corporate standards. 
  • Acts as the Plant Recall Coordinator in the event of a recall or crisis 
  • Lead investigation to understand cause and scope of incident. 
  • Works with Production Manager(s) to identify and implement immediate corrective actions that need to take place.  
  • Lead completion of Risk Assessment
  • Assists the corporate team on recall and withdrawal activities checklist
  • Assists and provides information to the corporate team on debrief after the recall  
  • Help providing information for customer communications with Sales & Business Teams in accordance with customer specific recall requirements taking input from the Recall team including translation. 

What You’ll Bring:

  • University degree or college diploma preferably in Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading a high performing team in a food manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to leverage exceptional interpersonal, communication to develop productive internal and external relationships.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders to achieve desired results.
  • Energetic and positive leadership style.
  • Excellent observation and problem solving skills.
  • Proven ability to coach for high performance. 
  • Strong systems skills (including MS Office).
  • Ability to work effectively on a cross functional leadership team.
  • Experience thriving in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
