Carrier Management & Freight Audit Manager

Mississauga - Financial Dr., ON

 The Opportunity:

The Manager, Carrier Management oversees the performance of our national dedicated and international network of selected third-party carriers. Key responsibilities include negotiating rates for lanes and additional services, conducting performance evaluations, managing claims, and maintaining rate data within SAP. Reporting to the Director of Transportation, this role also leads a team of Analysts responsible for rate negotiations, SAP master data maintenance, claims resolution, carrier support, and addressing freight audit inquiries.

Snapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:

  • Manage daily operations of the Carrier Management and Freight Audit teams, ensuring processes are executed effectively and service requirements are consistently met.
  • Lead and mentor a team of supply chain professionals, fostering growth and excellence.
  • Facilitate impactful performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback to foster growth and drive excellence.
  • Achieve monthly financial targets by implementing strategic solutions and effective management practices
  • Lead the team in negotiating rate contracts with partner carriers with a focus on rates, terms and conditions and accessorial charges.
  • Drive the coordination and execution of RFPs to unlock cost-saving opportunities and optimize operational efficiencies
  • Conduct statistical analysis of key performance metrics and present carrier partner results at period-end reviews.
  • Manage Monthly and Quarterly business reviews with core carrier partners
  • Monitor freight audit trends, collaborate with Accounts Payable (AP) to address issues promptly, and ensure efficient and accurate reporting processes.
  • Lead budgeting and auditing processes, ensuring accountability among teams and stakeholders.
  • Lead innovative continuous improvement initiatives by employing creative problem-solving strategies.
  • Identify areas of improvement and actively lead the team to participate in problem-solving, issue management and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as Transportation Subject Matter Expert (SME) on projects, actively engaging and guiding team contributions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally and adapt to dynamic business requirements with flexibility and dedication
  • Travel periodically to support business operations and foster relationships.

What You’ll Bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in a Supply Chain (preferably in the Food industry and/or Consumer Packaged Goods)
  • Undergraduate degree or college diploma, focus on Business and Supply chain preferred
  • Exceptional negotiating skills and the ability to influence others
  • Experience working in an SAP environment strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to motivate employees to accomplish personal and team goals
  • Willingness and ability to operate at both a tactical and strategic level
  • Ability to identify and drive process improvements with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Ability to create strong relationships and leverage them to drive results/change
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working in an ever-changing environment
