The Opportunity

As a member of the FSQA team, the HACCP Specialist is accountable for the development and execution of the HACCP system & Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs. The HACCP Specialist is a key member of the team and is responsible for driving continuous improvement in a faced paced and demanding environment.  Additionally, the HACCP Specialist will establish and maintain positive relationships with regulatory bodies.

A snapshot of some of the exciting things you will lead and do:

  • Ensures that the HACCP system (Pre-requisite and HACCP plans) is maintained and up to date as per current SFCR and other applicable legislative requirements.  
  • Update SOPs and forms as necessary from HACCP system reassessments, program changes, etc.
  • Conduct audits to comply with pre-requisites bullets and HACCP plans.
  • Provides technical (HACCP system and Food Safety) guidance to production staff
  • Responsible to assist in maintaining BRC certification, participates in Food Safety and BRC meetings, BRC and FSEP audits
  • Assist and accompany CFIA inspectors during performance of their CVS tasks 
  • Point of contact for CFIA.  Respond to and ensure completion of CVS tasks
  • Performs record review and on-site verifications for CCPs and/or related pre-requisite programs
  • Develops annual HACCP system reassessment, pre-req monitoring, and annual validation schedule Assist with investigation of non-conformances, complaints and with new product launches.
  • Assist with Non-Compliance Reports and in-house disposition of materials placed On Hold.
  • Lead food safety meetings 
  • Assist with conducting CCP and prerequisite training, annual GMP and food defense training.
  • Track and trend HACCP system performance and provide input to management meetings, period review, meetings, etc.
  • Other responsibilities as required.

What you will bring:

  • Solid understanding and experience with Modern Poultry Inspection System (MPIP)
  • Solid understanding of Animal Welfare best practices 
  • Bachelor of Science or Diploma in Food Safety/Science program or equivalent experience
  • Understanding of Sanitation, HACCP, CCP’s and GMP’s
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills
  • 3-5 years’ experience in the Food industry preferred
  • Ability to work effectively on a cross functional leadership team.
  • Experience thriving in an ever-changing, fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated alignment to the Maple Leaf Leadership Values.
